The Sanford Depot connects the past to the present and welcomes all to Sanford … then and now.
From a railroad town to a bustling city, Sanford is known as a place where things are made, a place that invests in itself and its community, and a place that excels in innovation, education, determination, and perseverance.
Help us tell Sanford’s story by renovating the historic Sanford Depot to be the “front door” & showpiece of our community. Just as it did after Sanford sprang up from the crossing of two railroads, the renovated Depot will welcome both residents and guests while showcasing our city’s timeless charm.
What’s Next for the Depot?
Built in 1910, the Sanford Depot is an iconic landmark in the heart of downtown Sanford. Its existence is a testament to our community that grew from a simple railroad crossing to become a regional and statewide competitor in innovation and commerce.
There is no better home for a state-of-the-art welcome center than this poignant and beloved reminder of who we have always been: people who make things happen.
Plans for the renovated building include:
- A welcome desk staffed with friendly and knowledgeable locals
- Digital kiosks stocked with information about all that Sanford offers
- A multi-purpose room for meetings and gatherings
- Curated cultural, history, and art exhibits and displays
