The Appearance Commission promotes historic preservation in the City of Sanford. Through liaison Liz Whitmore, the Appearance Commission is also responsible for beautification initiatives, such as Adopt a Highway, Arbor Day, Bee City USA, and public art such as murals, sculptures, and performances.

Funding Sources

The Appearance Commission receives funding from the Sanford City Council each year. In the past, the Commission has received funding from the North Carolina General Assembly, the Arts Council of Moore County, the Lee County Arts Council, the Visit Sanford Tourism Development Authority, Downtown Sanford, and the Duke Energy Foundation.

The Commission’s efforts are mainly funded through private donations.
